The Visegrad Group, also called the Visegrad Four, or V4 is a cultural and political alliance of four Central European states – Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia – for the purposes of furthering their European integration, as well as for advancing military, economic and energy cooperation with one another. The group used to be occasionally referred to as the Visegrad Triangle, due to the fact that it was originally an alliance of three states – the term has not been valid since 1993, but does continue to appear sometimes.
The inner part of the coin depicts a map of the four countries that comprise the Visegrad Group (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia). The map is supplemented by a stylized abbreviation V IV; the name of the issuing country Slovakia is situated in the lower right part, and the year mark in the lower left part. The design is surrounded by the legend Viségrad Group and the date of the foundation 15. 2. 1991. The initials of the coin's designer and the mint mark of the Kremnica Mint, comprising the letters "MK" placed between two dies, appear under the name of the country. The twelve stars of the European Union surround the design on the outer ring of the coin.
