Description

The medal "Hercules killing the three-headed hydra" (1888) by Anton Vasyutinsky (1858-1935) has been used as a prototype for this coin. This Russian artist was also an author of the portrait of Nicholas II on silver Kopecks and Roubles of Russian Empire, USSR's golden Chervonets, Order of Lenin and Ready for Labour and Defence sign.

Obverse

Halved field with the State Emblem of the Soviet Union (first version, 1923–1936) in upper half and value (one poltinnik) in lower. USSR state motto "Workers of the world, unite!" is around.

The State Emblem of the Soviet Union is composed of a sickle and a hammer on a globe depicted in the rays of the sun and framed by ears of wheat wrapped around a ribbon with 7 turns. At the top of the Emblem is a five-pointed star.

Variations for the year 1924:
— Mint mark T•P: a ray of sunlight that illuminates the earth short (rare) or long.
— Mint mark П•Л: a comma between the words "world" and "unite" touches the internal rim or there is a space in between (rare).

Reverse

Reverse presents a muscular young worker, clad in an apron, work pants and boots. He is pounding metal on an anvil with a large mallet. Sparks are flying from the anvil as the worker looks down at the metal he is shaping. Behind the worker sits an idle plow and other farm implements, as if to imply that he has left the farm in order to help build the new industrialized Soviet state.

Variations for the year 1924 with the mint mark П•Л:
— Big and small ("skinny worker", rare) head of the blacksmith.
— Wide (rare) and narrow handle hammer.
— The strict and skewed (rare) form of an anvil.
