The coat of arms of Monaco encircled by the country name and the twelve stars of Europe. Date below divides mint and mint master's marks.

The coat of arms of Monaco comprises a silver shield decorated with red diamonds surrounded by the Order of St. Charles (was instituted in 1858 by Prince Charles III) collar. It is placed on a red coat lined with ermine, topped by the Prince’s crown. Standing at each side of the shield are two bearded monks (Franciscans) brandishing raised swords. Below them is a banderole with the royal motto Deo Juvante (With God's Help, the motto of Lambert Grimaldi, who, in 1458, secured the loyalty of the population of Monaco, Menton and Roquebrune, after a plot.).

The monks supporting the shield in the coat of arms allude to the conquest of Monaco in 1297, when François Grimaldi entered the city with soldiers dressed as monks, with swords hidden under their cassocks.
