Description

The Royal Dutch Mint have launched their first circulation coin value with an additional element of color in honor of the upcoming UEFA European Football Championship tournament scheduled to kick off from the 8th June. The reverse of the collector’s coin-card has the schedule for the games which the Dutch National team are scheduled to play in. The coin included is an FDC strike of the 10 cent denomination which can be removed from the card.

The 2012 UEFA European Championship, commonly referred to as UEFA Euro 2012 or simply Euro 2012, was the 14th European Championship for men's national football teams organised by UEFA. The final tournament, held between 8 June and 1 July 2012, was co-hosted for the first time by Poland and Ukraine, and was won by Spain, who beat Italy 4–0 in the final at the NSC Olimpiyskiy in Kiev, Ukraine.

Netherlands took part in Group B which was considered the group of death of the tournament. The pool was made up of the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany and Portugal. Germany and Portugal progressed to the quarter-finals, while Denmark and the Netherlands were eliminated from the tournament.

Reverse

The coin’s numeral of “10” euro-cent has an Orange color, symbolic for the Dutch National team whose colors are also orange and the name of reigning royal dynasty (Orange-Nassau).

A geographical map of Western Europe spans the outer ring and inner core on the left side of the coin.

12 stars are located on the left side of the outer ring, with six stars atop the map of Europe and six stars below it; six vertical stripes cut across the inner core of the coin, visually connecting the upper and lower star segments.

Luc Luycx, a designer at the Royal Belgian Mint, designed the Euro’s common reverse; his initials, LL, are seen on the right side of the design, just under the “0” in “10.”
