The 2013 Summer Universiade, officially known as the XXVII Summer Universiade, was held in the city of Kazan (Tatarstan, Russia), the most northerly city ever to host a Summer Universiade. Over 10,400 university athletes from 162 countries participated in 13 mandatory and 14 optional sports, making the 2013 Universiade the biggest ever in the history of the event. For the first time in history a Cultural Universiade was also included, with many festivals and shows held simultaneously with the sporting events.

The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a combination of the words "University" and "Olympiad". The Universiade is often referred to in English as the World University Games or World Student Games.

Obverse

In the center of the disc the indication of the face value of the coin 10 RUBLES. Inside of the figure 0 hidden pictures of the figure 10 and of the inscription RUB visible by turns on changing angle of vision. Along the rim circular inscriptions, on top: BANK OF RUSSIA, on bottom the mint trade mark (SPMD) and the date, to the left the stylized image of a laurel branch, to the right of the oak one.

In the background of graphic contours of a stadium the stylized relief image of the mascot running with a torch, below to the right the logo and the emblem (stylized graphic image of a tulip) of the Universiade.

Uni, a kitten rendering of the symbolic winged snow leopard, was chosen as the mascot for the Kazan 2013 Summer Universiade. The winged snow leopard is the national symbol of the Republic of Tatarstan. A stylized version of this creature is represented on Tatarstan’s coat of arms.
