Description

The coin commemorates Queen Elizabeth II's 70th (Platinum) Wedding Anniversary to Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh. The Queen, then known as Princess Elizabeth, married the Duke of Edinburgh, known then as Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, at Westminster Abbey in London at 11.30am on 20 November 1947. The Queen, 91, and Prince Philip, 96, are the first British royal couple to celebrate a platinum wedding anniversary. The collection includes a gold proof, fine silver, silver proof and brilliant uncirculated coins, ranging in price from £5 to £20.

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark; 1921–2021), was a member of the British royal family as the husband of Elizabeth II. The longest-serving consort of a reigning British monarch and the longest-lived male member of the British royal family, he retired from his royal duties on 2 August 2017, aged 96, having completed 22,219 solo engagements and 5,493 speeches since 1952. Philip had four children with Elizabeth: Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward. A keen sports enthusiast, Philip helped develop the equestrian event of carriage driving. He was a patron of over 800 organisations and served as chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme for people aged 14 to 24.

Reverse

Depicts the Queen riding her favorite horse Burmese with her husband Prince Philip by her side. The horseback image was created to reflect the couple's passion for all things equestrian.

Burmese (1962–1990), a black RCMP Police Service Horse (PSH) mare, was given to Queen Elizabeth II by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and ridden by the Queen for Trooping the Colour for eighteen consecutive years from 1969 to 1986.
