Description

On 18 November 1995, the wedding of HRH Prince Joachim and Miss Alexandra Manley was marked by the issue of a commemorative coin in two versions: 20 Kroner aluminum bronze & 200 Kroner pure silver.

Prince Joachim (born 7 June 1969) is the younger son of Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik. Joachim is sixth in the line of succession to the Danish throne, following his elder brother, Crown Prince Frederik, and Frederik's four children.

Margrethe II (born 16 April 1940) is the Queen of Denmark. She is also the supreme authority of the Church of Denmark and Commander-in-Chief of the Danish Defence. She succeeded her father upon his death on 14 January 1972, having had become heir presumptive to her father in 1953, when a constitutional amendment allowed women to inherit the throne. On her accession, Margrethe became the first female monarch of Denmark since Margaret I, ruler of the Scandinavian kingdoms in 1375–1412 during the Kalmar Union. In 1967, she married Henri de Laborde de Monpezat, with whom she has two sons: Crown Prince Frederik (born 1968) and Prince Joachim (born 1969). She has been on the Danish throne for 45 years, becoming the second-longest-reigning Danish monarch after her ancestor Christian IV.

Obverse

Depicts a third portrait of the Queen Margrethe II to the right, in keeping with tradition for the highest denominations in a Danish coin series. Above year of issue initials of mintmaster Laust Grove (LG).

Between Margrethe II and Danmarks Dronning is a small heart. The heart (♥) is the Royal Danish Mint mark (h, Copenhagen). The use of the heart is a century-old tradition, originally indicating the mint master, later the place of minting. Today, the mint mark serves no practical purpose since Danish coins are minted in only one place.

On 18 November 1995 Joachim married in Frederiksborg Palace Church in Hillerød, near Copenhagen, Alexandra Christina Manley, now Alexandra Christina, Countess of Frederiksborg, a Hong Kong-born former sales and marketing deputy chief executive of British, Chinese, Czech and Austrian ancestry. They had two sons. On 16 September 2004 the couple announced their separation, and divorced on 8 April 2005. Countess Alexandra of Frederiksborg subsequently married again and lost the title Princess of Denmark. She continues to live and work in Denmark and the couple share joint custody of their sons.

Schackenborg Castle is a château located in Møgeltønder, Southern Jutland. From 1993 until 2014, it was the private residence of Prince Joachim.
