Description

Pannonia was an ancient province of the Roman Empire bounded north and east by the Danube, coterminous westward with Noricum and upper Italy, and southward with Dalmatia and upper Moesia. Pannonia was located over the territory of the present-day western Hungary, eastern Austria, northern Croatia, north-western Serbia, northern Slovenia, western Slovakia and northern Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Valerius Severus (Latin: Flavius Valerius Severus Augustus; died September 307), also Severus II, was a Western Roman Emperor from 306 to 307 (1 May 305 – summer 306 as Caesar in the west under Constantius Chlorus; summer 306 – March or April 307 as Augustus in the west, in competition with Constantine, Maxentius, and Maximian). After failing to besiege Rome, he fled to Ravenna. It is thought that he was killed there or executed near Rome.

Reverse

Genius standing left holding patera and Cornucopia.

In Roman religion, the genius is the individual instance of a general divine nature that is present in every individual person, place, or thing. Much like a guardian angel, the genius would follow each man from the hour of his birth until the day he died. Since the reign of Nero, the Genius was recognized as protector of the emperor, and during the late third and early fourth century AD, it became a very common reverse type.

In the material culture of classical antiquity, a phiale or patera is a shallow ceramic or metal libation bowl. In classical antiquity, the cornucopia (from Latin cornu copiae) or horn of plenty was a symbol of abundance and nourishment, commonly a large horn-shaped container overflowing with produce, flowers or nuts.
