Description

French Indochina (1887–1954), was a grouping of French colonial territories in Southeast Asia. A grouping of the three Vietnamese regions of Tonkin (north), Annam (centre), and Cochinchina (south) with Cambodia was formed in 1887. Laos was added in 1893 and the leased Chinese territory of Guangzhouwan in 1898.

Obverse	Symbol, amulet, talisman Libertas (Liberty, Marianne), Phrygian cap Tree, flower, plant etc. Laurel Marianne wearing Phrygian cap, facing right, holding laurel branch with right hand, date in exergue. Marianne is a national symbol of the French Republic, an allegory of liberty and reason, and a portrayal of the Goddess of Liberty. It is a significant republican symbol, opposed to monarchy, and an icon of freedom and democracy against all forms of dictatorship. Her profile stands out on the official government logo of the country, is engraved on French euro coins and appears on French postage stamps; it also was featured on the former franc currency. Reverse	Tree, flower, plant etc. Rice Rice plant divides denomination. Below the denomination: • mint's director privy mark (Cornucopia, Paris) • mintmark (none - Paris, B - Beaumont-le-Roger, C - Castelsarrasin) • engraver general's privy mark (wing, Lucien Bazor, 1931-1958).
