The coin commemorates the 62nd Eurovision Song Contest, which was held in 2017 at the International Exhibition Centre in Kiev, Ukraine.
Forty-two countries competed in the event, with Portugal emerging as the winner. Salvador Sobral performed the winning song, "Amar pelos dois" (Loving for Both of Us), which was written by his sister, Luísa Sobral. This victory marked Portugal's first-ever win and first top-five finish in their 53 years of participation, ending the longest winless streak in Eurovision history.
