Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon (4 August 1900 – 30 March 2002) was the wife of King George VI and the mother of Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon. She was Queen consort of the United Kingdom and the Dominions from her husband's accession in 1936 until his death in 1952, after which she was known as Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, to avoid confusion with her daughter.

The George IV State Diadem, officially the Diamond Diadem, is a type of crown that was made in 1820 for King George IV. The diadem is worn by queens and queens consort in procession to coronations and State Openings of Parliament. The piece of jewellery has been featured in paintings and on stamps and currency. It can be seen in the Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace.

Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon (1930–2002), was the younger daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and the sister of Queen Elizabeth II. Born when her parents were Duke and Duchess of York, her life changed at age six when her father became king. During WWII, she stayed at Windsor Castle with her sister. Known for her glamorous lifestyle, Margaret had a famous romance with Peter Townsend, which ended due to his divorced status. In 1960, she married Antony Armstrong-Jones, later Earl of Snowdon, and had two children. They divorced in 1978 amid much public scrutiny. Margaret's health declined in her later years due to heavy smoking and multiple strokes.
