Description

When His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge was christened, the nation was delighted to see four generations of the Royal Family coming together for the happy occasion. It was a sign of Her Majesty The Queen’s long and happy reign. The moment symbolised stability, experience and the promise of the Windsor dynasty, with four successive generations of the Royal Family together for the first time in more than 100 years.

To mark the moment, The Queen, her son His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, her grandson His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge and her great-grandson Prince George of Cambridge are honoured together for the first time on an official UK coin. The last time four generations of the Royal family were celebrated together was in 1894 under the reign of Queen Victoria. This design has been approved by the Palace.

This commemorative coin is finished to Brilliant Uncirculated standard, a finer finish than the coins we use every day. It is presented in a display folder that is filled with information and images on the four generations that are celebrated on this coin.

The George IV State Diadem, officially the Diamond Diadem, is a type of crown that was made in 1820 for King George IV. The diadem is worn by queens and queens consort in procession to coronations and State Openings of Parliament. The piece of jewelry has been featured in paintings and on stamps and currency. It can be seen in the Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace.

Reverse

Depicts, as a celebration of the Royal family, recognisable elements from the Badge of the House of Windsor, such as the oak branches and coronet. All four generations have been represented equally, and because Prince George does not receive his coat of arms or coronet until he is 18. Each generation represented with the initials of their first names: E, C, W and G.

Charles, Prince of Wales (14 November 1948), is the eldest child and heir apparent of Queen Elizabeth II. Known alternatively in Scotland as Duke of Rothesay and in South West England as Duke of Cornwall, he is the longest-serving heir apparent in British history, having held the position since 1952.

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge (born 21 June 1982) is the elder son of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales. He is second in the line of succession to the British throne, after his father. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (Catherine Elizabeth "Kate"; née Middleton; born 9 January 1982) is the wife of Prince William.

Prince George of Cambridge (George Alexander Louis; born 22 July 2013) is the elder child and only son of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. He is third in line of succession to the British throne, after his paternal grandfather, and father.
