Portrait of Bernardo O'Higgins to the right.

Bernardo O'Higgins Riquelme (1778–1842) was a Chilean independence leader who, together with José de San Martín, freed Chile from Spanish rule in the Chilean War of Independence. He was a wealthy landowner of Spanish and Irish ancestry. Although he was the second Supreme Director of Chile (1817–1823), he is considered one of Chile's founding fathers, as he was the first holder of this title to head a fully independent Chilean state.

After 2008 there seem to be varieties concerning a lettering on the lower left shoulder parts. Before there is no lettering.

After 2008 including that year there seem to exist three different types of fonts for date lettering. First is narrow spaced with high relief lettering, second is medium spaced with high relief lettering, third is wide spaced lettering with lower relief (less bold lettering, too). These differences are best spotted in the lettering of the "0".
