Obverse

Depicts a tughra in Urdu that translates as "Government of Pakistan". A star and crescent, a Muslim symbol, is engraved above the tughra slanted toward the upper left. Written clockwise along the coin's rim is the Bengali equivalent of the tughra. Date below.

The star and crescent is an iconographic symbol used in various historical contexts but most well known today as a symbol of the former Ottoman Empire and, by popular extension, the Islamic world. It appears on the national flag and state emblem of Pakistan.
