The Rio 2016 Olympic mascot is called Vinicius, named after the musician Vinicius de Moraes.
He represents all of the different animals in Brazil. It combines the agility of cats, the sway of monkeys and the grace of birds. He can stretch his arms and legs as much as he wants. This allows him to jump higher, run faster, and become stronger. He has a very acute sense of smell, with a nose for adventure, and amazing powers of hearing, which allows him to find the liveliest fans. He practises all Olympic sports; he is the hyper-connected type with friends all around the world.

Marcus Vinicius da Cruz e Mello Moraes (October 19, 1913 – July 9, 1980), also known as Vinicius de Moraes and nicknamed O Poetinha ("The little poet"), was a Brazilian poet, lyricist, essayist and playwright who wrote the lyrics for many now-classic Brazilian songs and became a seminal figure in modern Brazilian music. He also wrote a number of plays, served as a national diplomat, composed his own bossa nova music and, as an interpreter of his own lyrics, recorded several significant albums. He helped to create two of the icons of twentieth-century culture, the play Orfeu da Conceição, which became known in English as Black Orpheus, and the song "Garota de Ipanema," better known as "The Girl from Ipanema."
