Description

São Tomé and Príncipe is an island country in the Gulf of Guinea, off the western equatorial coast of Central Africa. It consists of two archipelagos around the two main islands of São Tomé and Príncipe, about 140 km (87 mi) apart and about 250 and 225 km (155 and 140 mi) off the northwestern coast of Gabon.

The name Dobra derives from Portuguese dóbra, meaning "doubloon."

The coat of arms of São Tomé and Príncipe consists of a red-footed falcon on the left and a grey parrot on the right holding a coat of arms with a palm in its center. The coat of arms is surmounted by a blue star. Above, there is a band that states the name of the country. At the base of the arms the national motto, "Unity, discipline, work" is inscribed.

The giant sunbird (Dreptes thomensis) is a species of bird in the family Nectariniidae. It is endemic to the island of São Tomé (São Tomé and Príncipe), where it occurs in the central massif. The species was first described by José Vicente Barbosa du Bocage in 1889.
