The celebration of the Science Day dates back to the royal era in 1944, when King Farouk announced that Egypt would celebrate the Science Day on August 17, every year. In the era of President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1958, the date of Science Day was changed to December 21, the date of the opening of Cairo University in 1908.
