Description

The 2024 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, and commonly known as Paris 2024, is an international multi-sport event that is scheduled to take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024 in Paris, France.

Having previously played host in 1900 and 1924, Paris will become the second city to host the Olympics three times, after London (1908, 1948 and 2012). 2024 will mark the centenary of the Paris Games of 1924 and the sixth Olympic Games hosted by France (three in summer and three in winter).

The Handover Ceremony with Tokyo 2020 was among the highlights of the Olympic Games Closing Ceremony, which took take place on August 8 in the National Stadium in Tokyo. Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike officially passed the Olympic flag to Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris, ahead of a 12-minute artistic sequence, during which Paris 2024 provided a foretaste of its festive ambition.

Reverse

A geographical map of Western Europe spans the outer ring and inner core on the right side of the coin. The inscription 2 EURO is superimposed over the map of Europe, with the numeral “2” located in an open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean.

12 stars are located on the right side of the outer ring, with six stars atop the map of Europe and six stars below it; six vertical stripes cut across the inner core of the coin, visually connecting the upper and lower star segments.

Luc Luycx, a designer at the Royal Belgian Mint, designed the Euro’s common reverse; his initials, LL, are seen on the right side of the design, just under the “O” in “EURO.”
