The Royal Mint has released new commemorative crown coins marking the 40th birthday of one of the royal family’s most beloved members, His Royal Highness Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge (William Arthur Philip Louis; born 21 June 1982). This is the first UK coin design wholly dedicated to The Duke of Cambridge. He has been featured on a commemorative coin released for his wedding in 2011.
Since attaining his majority, he has evolved from a popular young prince to a senior member of the royal family. Prince William is a devoted husband to Her Royal Highness Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge, and a loving father to their three young children.
Growing up during the eighties and nineties as a popular prince, His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge has evolved into his senior royal role with seamless confidence. In addition to his ceremonial duties, which include supporting his grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, His Royal Highness works tirelessly to make an impact on progressive causes that remain close to his heart – whether it’s tackling the issue of climate change or the stigma attached to mental health issues.
A piedfort is an unusually thick coin, often exactly twice the normal weight and thickness of other coins of the same diameter and pattern. Piedforts are not normally circulated, and are only struck for presentation purposes by mint officials (such as patterns), or for collectors, dignitaries, and other VIPs.
