Description

The commemorative coin issued in 2002 is the first Finnish euro-denominated gold coin. It was designed by sculptor Toivo Jaatinen and reflects the nature of the North and the midnight sun.

Coins have numbering on the edge, which makes each commemorative coin unique.

Obverse

Depicts a pine tree and a flowing river and a waterfall formed by it. Country name in Finnish and Swedish above.

The initials:
• letter M of the Mint of Finland’s President and CEO Raimo Makkonen on the left
• letter J of the engraver Toivo Antero Jaatinen on the right

Reverse

Depicts a northern landscape in the nighttime. Fells rising from the horizon and above them the sun and its four different phases. Value in the centre.
