Description

The 1992 Summer Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXV Olympiad, was an international multi-sport event played in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain in 1992. Beginning in 1994, the International Olympic Committee decided to hold the games in alternating even-numbered years; as a result, the 1992 Summer Olympics were the last competition to be staged in the same year as the Winter Olympics. The games were the first to be unaffected by boycotts since 1972.

Obverse

The men's field hockey tournament at the 1992 Summer Olympics was the 17th edition of the field hockey event for men at the Summer Olympic Games. It was held over a fourteen-day period beginning on 26 July, and culminating with the medal finals on 8 August. All games were played at the Estadi Olímpic de Terrassa in Terrassa, Spain, located 30 kilometers from Barcelona.

Germany won the gold medal for the second time after defeating Australia 2–1 in the final. Pakistan won the bronze medal by defeating the Netherlands 4–3.

The women's field hockey tournament at the 1992 Summer Olympics was the 4th edition of the field hockey event for women at the Summer Olympic Games. It was held over a twelve-day period beginning on 27 July, and culminating with the medal finals on 7 August. All games were played at the Estadi Olímpic de Terrassa in Terrassa, Spain, located 30 kilometers from Barcelona.

Spain won the gold medal for the first time after defeating Germany 2–1 in the final with a golden goal. Great Britain won the bronze medal by defeating South Korea 4–3.
