Description

The Ministry of Trade and Industry was established on December 20, 1934 during the reign of King Ahmed Fuad I according to the Royal Decree No. 11. It was called the Trade and Industry Department of the Ministry of Finance. Then, it became an independent ministry in July 1956 during the era of President Jamal Abdel Nasser, and that was in the interest of producing electricity, the expansion of oil extraction, and the establishment of iron and steel factories to serve the new national projects and large corporations for the advancement of Egypt.

The tasks of the Ministry changed over time and it became responsible for Foreign Trade and Industry. Its name has changed for the second time during the government of Ibrahim Mahlab, which was formed in June 2014, to the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Small and Medium Enterprises.
