Cairo University, also known as the Egyptian University from 1908 to 1940, and King Fuad I University and Fu'ād al-Awwal University from 1940 to 1952, is Egypt's premier public university. Its main campus is in Giza, immediately across the Nile from Cairo. It was founded on 21 December 1908.
The Faculty of Science of Cairo University was established in 1925. It is one of the most important faculties of Cairo University. It contains departments that cover all sciences, namely the Department of Chemistry, Physics, Animals, Plants, Mathematics, Insects, Geophysics, Biophysics, Astronomy, Geology and Computer. It is accredited and grants a bachelor’s degree in single and double majors, and the College of Science is the mother college for the faculties of medicine and pharmacy. New departments were opened in it, such as the Department of Petroleum Sciences, Biotechnology, and Microbiology.
