The "National Insurance Company" is the first insurance company to provide services to the Egyptian people, as there were some branches and representative offices of a number of European insurance companies in Egypt, specifically from the United Kingdom and Italy, which began operating in the last decade of the nineteenth century and were providing Insurance service for foreigners residing in Egypt only, not for Egyptians. In the year 1900, the National Bank of Egypt established the first insurance company in Egypt, the National Insurance Company of Egypt, on May 29, 1900, in accordance with the decree issued by Khedive Abbas Helmy, to practice general insurance activity only.
