Description

Giorgio Armani is an Italian fashion designer. He first gained renown working for Cerruti and then for many others, including Allegri, Bagutta and Hilton. He formed his company, Armani, in 1975, which eventually expanded into music, sport and luxury hotels. By 2001 Armani was acclaimed as the most successful designer of Italian origin and is credited with pioneering red-carpet fashion.

Obverse

Depicts the central prospectus of the Palazzo Orsini in Milan, bounded above and below, respectively, by the inscriptions “GIORGIO ARMANI” and “Palazzo Orsini”; around, “REPUBBLICA ITALIANA”.

The Palazzo Orsini is a neoclassic-style palace located on via Borgonuovo #11 in Milan. The palace was initially completed in the second half of the 17th century by members of the Secco-Borella family. It was acquired by the Orsini family, and refurbished. The next owners were the Falcò-Pio families, who owned the palace till 1918. The façade was designed by Luigi Clerichetti in the second half of the 19th century. The interiors and the grand staircase were designed and decorated by Luigi Canonica, with fresco decorations by both Giovanni Antonio Cucchi and Andrea Appiani. The building is now the registered office of Giorgio Armani SpA.
