The Police collectable coin is the seventh in The Royal Mint's "Music Legends" series, which celebrates legendary British artists through original new designs. This latest coin follows designs in honor of music icons Queen, Elton John, David Bowie, The Who, The Rolling Stones and Shirley Bassey.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of their acclaimed album "Synchronicity," The Police has been honored with an official British coin. The iconic English rock band achieved massive success, selling over 75 million records worldwide, with five UK number one singles and albums, leading the second British invasion in the US. "Synchronicity" was their most successful album, earning platinum certification and three GRAMMY Awards, selling over 15 million copies globally. Led by Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland, The Police's rock style blended punk, reggae, and jazz influences, gaining worldwide recognition and commercial success. Despite disbanding in 1986, the band reunited for a highly successful world tour in 2007.
