Description

The 44th Ryder Cup Matches was held in Italy in the autumn of 2023 at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Guidonia Montecelio near Rome.

The Ryder Cup is a biennial men's golf tournament pitting teams from Europe against the United States. It alternates between U.S. and European courses every two years. Samuel Ryder, an English businessman, donated the trophy.

Initially between Great Britain and the U.S., the first official Ryder Cup took place in 1927 in the U.S. The U.S. dominated early on, leading to the inclusion of continental European players in 1979. Europe has won eleven times outright and retained the Cup once in a tied match, while the U.S. has won nine times since 1979.

The 2021 Ryder Cup held in Wisconsin saw the U.S. beat Europe 19–9, marking the biggest win since 1979. The Ryder Cup shifted from odd to even years in 2002 and back to odd years in 2021 due to 9/11 and the COVID-19 pandemic.

A prominent feature on the golf ball is the official emblem of the global golf championship "RYDER CUP 2023." Encircling it is the text "REPUBBLICA ITALIANA," flanked on either side by distinctive red and blue bands symbolizing the United States of America and Europe. These two entities compete biennially on renowned golf courses. On the left, encircling the emblem, is the signature of the creator, "A. MASINI."

The logo depicts the Ryder Cup with the figure on top modelled after professional golfer Abe Mitchell, Samuel Ryder's private coach.
