Description

UNESCO proclaimed 1979 as the International Year of the Child. The proclamation was signed on January 1, 1979 by United Nations Secretary General Kurt Waldheim. A follow-up to the 1959 Declaration of the Rights of the Child, the proclamation was intended to draw attention to problems that affected children throughout the world, including malnutrition and lack of access to education. Many of these efforts resulted in the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.

Obverse	Flag Iraq People (man, woman, child etc.) Child Tree, flower, plant etc. Olive Depicted a child right wearing flowers and olive wreath and the flag of Iraq (1963–1991) on his shoulder with 3 stars within a circle. The inscription "The children of today are the heroes of tomorrow". After the Ba'ath Party ousted Qassim in 1963, they introduced a modified Arab Liberation flag as Iraq's new flag on July 31, 1963. This flag had horizontal red, white, and black stripes, which were derived from the Pan-Arab colors used in the Egyptian Revolution of 1952. It was similar to the flag of the United Arab Republic (UAR), but with three stars instead of two, symbolizing Iraq's desire to join Egypt and Syria in a union. أطفال اليوم أبطال الغد
