Description

The Iraqi Army, or Iraqi Ground Forces, is the ground component of the Iraqi Armed Forces. It was initially the Royal Iraqi Army until the July 1958 coup. The British appointed Hashemite King Faisal I as the ruler in August 1921, leading to the establishment of the Royal Iraqi Army (RIrA).
