With the fall of France in 1940 during World War II, Lebanon came under the control of Vichy France until the British and Free French occupied the country in the Syria-Lebanon campaign in July 1941.
Emergency coinage struck in Lebanon during WWII (1941) when the Paris Mint could no longer supply coins.
Three varieties are known. Usually crudely struck, off-center, etc. Perfectly struck, centred uncirculated specimens command a considerable premium. Finely struck coins appear with medal rotation while crude examples have coin rotation. The size of letters also varies.
