Description

The Italian Basketball Federation (Italian: Federazione Italiana Pallacanestro; FIP) is the governing body of basketball in Italy. It is based in Rome. It organises national competitions in Italy and the Italian basketball leagues, which operate the country's two professional leagues, Lega Basket Serie A (LBA) and Serie A2 Basket.

The birth of basketball in Italy dates from 1907, when Ida Nomi, a member of C.T. femminile della Federginnastica (the Italian Gymnastics Federation) translated the rules into Italian and popularised the game, which was then called “Palla al cesto” (Ball in the basket). Basketball activities took place from 1919 onwards (the first match we know of was played in the gardens of the Royal Villa in Monza). In 1920, on the initiative of Manlio Pastorini, Federginnastica admitted the new sport among its sporting disciplines and the first national championship took place (won by Foraza and Constanza Brescia). On 2 November 1921, in the Columbo Brewery of Milan, the constitutive statutes of Federazione Italiana Basket-Ball (the Italian Federation of Basketball) (FIB) were approved and the Federation was entrusted to a Management Committee.

The Rhodium Plated Silver (0.925 ) coin is delivered in the original box including a certificate of authenticity. As a special highlight for every basketball fan, the box was designed in the shape of a basketball. Rhodium Plated Silver is sterling silver coated in rhodium to make it whiter and brighter. Silver is a softer metal, so rhodium protects it from scratches or wear.
