Jugurtha, king of Numidia (c. 160 – 104 BC), rose to power after the death of King Micipsa in 118 BC. He eliminated his adoptive brothers, Hiempsal and Adherbal, through cunning means. The controversial death of Adherbal and Jugurtha's manipulation of Roman senators sparked the Jugurthine War against Rome. After several battles, Jugurtha was captured in 105 BC, paraded in Rome, and later executed by strangulation in 104 BC, concluding a tumultuous chapter in Numidian history.
