Description

The Somali Republic, formed by uniting Somalia and Somaliland in 1960, had a government led by Abdullahi Issa Mohamud and Muhammad Haji Ibrahim Egal. Aden Abdullah Osman Daar was the President, and Abdirashid Ali Shermarke became the Prime Minister in 1960. Despite a new constitution ratified in 1961, the administration faced rejection from Somaliland. In 1969, the Supreme Revolutionary Council took power, renaming the country the Somali Democratic Republic.
