Rita Levi-Montalcini (1909–2012) was an Italian neurobiologist. In 1986, she received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, jointly with colleague Stanley Cohen, for their discovery of nerve growth factor (NGF). From 2001 until her passing, she held the position of Senator for Life in the Italian Senate, a tribute to her significant scientific contributions. Remarkably, on 22 April 2009, she celebrated her 100th birthday, becoming the first Nobel laureate to reach this milestone, with a celebratory event at Rome's City Hall.
