Emil Erich Kästner (1899–1974) was a German writer, poet, screenwriter, and satirist. He gained recognition for his witty and socially insightful poems, as well as his renowned children's books such as "Emil and the Detectives." In 1960, he was honored with the international Hans Christian Andersen Medal for his autobiography "Als ich ein kleiner Junge war." Additionally, he received Nobel Prize in Literature nominations in six different years.
