The Guardia di Finanza (GdF) is an Italian law enforcement agency reporting to the Minister of Economy and Finance. It operates as a militarized police force, distinct from the Ministry of Defence, focusing on financial crime, smuggling, and combating the illegal drug trade. With a fleet of over 600 boats and ships and more than 100 aircraft, it patrols Italy's territorial waters, while also serving as border police and handling customs duties at Italian airports. Interpol describes the GdF as a force with military status, nationally tasked with financial crime and illegal drugs trafficking investigations. Established on October 5, 1774, the GdF's origins trace back to the "Light Troops Legion," marking its Raising Day.
