Mani Matter (1936–1972), born Hans-Peter Matter, was a beloved Swiss singer-songwriter. Born in Herzogenbuchsee, Canton of Bern, Matter began performing his own chansons in contemporary Bernese German during his youth in Bern. Accompanied by his guitar, he entertained audiences at local venues and on the radio. Tragically, he passed away in a car accident while en route to a concert. Despite his untimely death, Matter's legacy endures through his Bernese German songs, which remain popular in Switzerland's German-speaking regions. His influence on Bern's dialect music scene persists, with his songs frequently covered and taught in schools as examples of soft irony.

"Dominus Providebit," meaning "the Lord will provide," originated from Genesis 22:8 and was initially featured on Bern coins in 1716. To enhance protection against counterfeiting, the Federal Mint incorporated this motto into the border script of the 20-franc pieces in 1886. DOMICNUS | PROVIDEBIT *********** | ** |
