Elizabeth of Hungary, also known as Elisabeth of Thuringia (Hungarian: Árpád-házi Szent Erzsébet, 1207–1231), was a Hungarian princess and the landgravine of Thuringia.
Married at 14 and widowed at 20, Elizabeth reclaimed her dowry after her husband's death, using it to establish a hospital where she personally tended to the sick. Her devout charity earned her widespread admiration, and upon her death at 24 in 1231, she became a symbol of Christian benevolence. Canonized on May 25, 1235, she is revered as a saint by the Catholic Church. An early member of the Third Order of St. Francis, she is now celebrated as its patroness.
