Obverse

Depicts three Komondors standing in a vigilant posture in a grassy plain. In the background, there is a rural homestead with a well and grazing sheep. At the top edge of the commemorative coin, the inscription "KOMONDOR" is curved, and at the bottom left, integrated into the depiction of the grassy plain, the engraver's privy mark is placed.

The Komondor is a well-known Hungarian shepherd dog breed, with its current form being bred for the longest time. Its name likely derives from "kuman" (kun), first recorded in 1454. The Debrecen Codex mentions "Komondor" or "Kamondor" in 1519, suggesting it was the shepherd dog of the Kun regions. The Komondor likely arrived in the Carpathian Basin with our ancestors during the migration period or possibly with the Cumans in the mid-13th century.

A detailed description of the Komondor was made in 1841, and by 1899, it was rare with only one specimen shown at a national exhibition. By 1909, it was near extinction. Shepherds valued and bred them purely, leading to the establishment of the first breeding organization in 1924 and the creation of the first breed standard by Csaba Anghi in 1935, which was accepted by the International Cynological Federation in 1960.

The Komondor is known for its human-centric nature, affection for family and friends, and quick learning abilities. It is currently bred only in white, though it once came in yellow, spotted, and deer-colored variations. Since 2017, it has been included in the Collection of Hungarian Heritage along with eight other indigenous dog breeds.

Inside the mint mark, visible with at least tenfold magnification, micro-script depicting letters identical to those of the mint mark letter is placed.
