Description

The Eucharistic World Congress, or International Eucharistic Congress, is a global event of the Roman Catholic Church focused on deepening the understanding and reverence of the Eucharist.

The initiative began with Emilia Tamisier from southern France, who organized pilgrimages in honor of the Eucharist starting in June 1874. The first National Eucharistic Congress was held in Faverney in September 1875. Each congress, hosted in different locations, has a specific theme and includes lectures, communal prayers, and Eucharistic adoration. Initially annual or biennial, they have been held every four years since World War II. Hungary hosted the event twice: in 1938 and 2021, with Pope Francis attending the latter.

Engraver: Tamás E. Soltra

Obverse

Depicts a monstrance designed by Kata Lenzsér-Mezei for the International Eucharistic Congress, with radiating beams and a background detail of Heroes' Square in Budapest. The engraver's privy mark is on the left, and the inscription "BUDAPEST" on the right indicates the IEC location. Around the edge, "52ND INTERNATIONAL EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS" is inscribed at the top, and the IEC motto, "ALL MY SOURCES COME FROM YOU," is at the bottom.

A monstrance, or ostensorium, is a vessel used in Roman Catholic, Old Catholic, High Church Lutheran, and Anglican churches to display a consecrated Eucharistic host during adoration or Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. It can also be used to display relics of saints. The term "monstrance" comes from the Latin "monstrare," meaning "to show," while "ostensorium" comes from "ostendere," meaning "to exhibit." Both terms refer to a vessel for the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, though "ostensorium" is exclusively used for this purpose.
