The National Archives of Hungary, known as Magyar Nemzeti Levéltár in Hungarian, were established in 1756. Initially located in Pressburg, Upper Hungary (now Bratislava, Slovakia), they were later moved to Buda in 1784.
Today, the National Archives of Hungary in Budapest serve as the custodian of the nation's historical records.
