Description

The National Archives of Hungary, known as Magyar Nemzeti Levéltár in Hungarian, were established in 1756. Initially located in Pressburg, Upper Hungary (now Bratislava, Slovakia), they were later moved to Buda in 1784.

Today, the National Archives of Hungary in Budapest serve as the custodian of the nation's historical records. Their mission in the 21st century includes the collection, cataloging, and preservation of historic documents. They play a crucial role in supporting research into history, providing assistance to citizens and scholars alike who seek to explore family histories or delve into various historical topics of interest.
