The Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Petroleum Operations Ltd. (ADCO) is a limited liability company established to explore, develop, and operate oil and gas fields in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, on behalf of its shareholders. The first commercial oil discovery in the onshore concession was at the Bab field in 1960, with crude oil shipments commencing from the Jebel Dhanna Terminal on December 14, 1963. The 50th anniversary of this milestone was celebrated on December 14, 2013. Soon after, on January 10, 2014, ADCO marked the completion of 75 years of the original oil Concession Agreement with foreign shareholders. ADCO continues to support the development and success of Abu Dhabi and the UAE, adhering to the visionary policies of the Rulers, which focus on the prudent use of wealth and ensuring prosperity for future generations.
Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (1918–2004) was an Emirati leader, credited with founding the United Arab Emirates. He governed the Eastern Region before becoming Abu Dhabi's ruler in 1966 and later the UAE's first president until his passing in 2004. Revered as the "Father of the Nation," he played a pivotal role in uniting the seven emirates. Zayed succeeded his brother as Abu Dhabi's ruler after a peaceful coup in 1966.
