Description

The 2012 Summer Olympics, formally the Games of the XXX Olympiad and commonly known as London 2012, took place in London and to a lesser extent across the United Kingdom from 25 July to 12 August 2012. During the Games, Michael Phelps became the most decorated Olympic athlete of all time, winning his 22nd medal. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Brunei entered female athletes for the first time, so that every currently eligible country has sent a female competitor to at least one Olympic Games. Women's boxing was included for the first time, thus the Games became the first at which every sport had female competitors. The final medal tally was led by the United States, followed by China and host Great Britain.

The coat of arms of the Republic of Seychelles shows a shield, in which a giant tortoise is located on grounds. On the ground there is a coco de mer palm tree. Behind it there is a sea with two islands and a sail ship to be seen. The shield is enthroned by a helmet, on which a white-tailed tropicbird is located above waves. The shield is supported by two white sailfish. Beneath the shield the motto of Seychelles is stated: "Finis Coronat Opus" (Latin for "The End Crowns the Work").

Depicts a javelin throw athlete, inscription with a date on the left and value below the athlete's arm in the left half, and on the right a scene from Seychelles Island a hunter looking to the sea carrying prey with palm trees, mountains, a bird flying on the sky and an Aldabra giant tortoise.

The javelin throw is one of four track and field throwing events at the Summer Olympics. The men's javelin throw was introduced to the Olympic athletics program in 1908, making it the last of the current throwing events to be included, following the shot put, discus throw, and hammer throw. The women's javelin throw debuted at the 1932 Olympics, becoming the second women's throwing event after the discus in 1928.

Two variants of the javelin throw have been part of the Olympic program: a freestyle version first appeared at the 1906 Intercalated Games and then at the 1908 London Olympics. Additionally, a unique two-handed version was held at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics.
