The Hungarian National Bank issues a gold commemorative coin "Gold Florin of Ladislaus V the Posthumous" as the eighth piece in the Medieval Hungarian gold forints series.
Ladislaus V (also known as Ladislaus the Posthumous) was the King of Hungary and Croatia from 1457 until his death in 1459. Born in 1440, he was the posthumous son of King Albert II of Hungary and Elisabeth of Luxembourg, and his birth shortly after his father's death led to his name "Posthumous." His reign was marked by political instability, as he was a child when he ascended to the throne, and his rule was contested by powerful factions within Hungary, including the influence of the Habsburgs and the Ottomans. Ladislaus V's reign was brief, as he died at the age of 19, under mysterious circumstances, and was succeeded by Matthias Corvinus. Despite his short reign, Ladislaus' rule was important in the context of the medieval Hungarian monarchy's struggles against foreign influence and internal conflict.

Obverse
|
Depicts at the center—partially overlapping the circular, pearl-edged, mesh-patterned field—is the figure of Ladislaus V seated on a throne. The depiction is inspired by an engraving from the 1488 Brno edition of the Thuróczi Chronicle. Below the figure is the king's coat of arms, a quartered shield featuring the Árpád stripes, the Bohemian lion, the Moravian eagle, and the Austrian shield. To the left of Ladislaus V's depiction is the mint mark "BP.," with the year of issue, "2024," below it. To the right is the engraver's privy mark. Inside the pearl-edged border, the inscription reads "GOLD FLORIN OF LADISLAUS V, 1453-1457" V. LÁSZLÓ 1453-1457 ARANYFORINTJA |
