Description

Mdina, known as the "Silent City," is a fortified medieval town in the heart of Malta, rich in history and charm. Once the island’s capital, this ancient city boasts narrow, winding streets, stunning Baroque and medieval architecture, and panoramic views from its high bastions. With a population of just a few hundred, Mdina offers a peaceful atmosphere, free from the hustle of modern life. Landmarks such as St. Paul’s Cathedral and Palazzo Falson reflect its noble past, while its mix of Norman, Arabic, and European influences make it a unique cultural treasure.

Obverse	Military Citadel Depicts a view of Mdina, which is located on a 185-meter-high ridge of the Dingli Plateau. The inscription "MDINA" above the left, the issuing country, and the year of issue below. The engraver’s initials are at the upper right. Reverse	Geography & astronomy Map A geographical map of Western Europe spans the outer ring and inner core on the right side of the coin. The inscription 2 EURO is superimposed over the map of Europe, with the numeral “2” located in an open field representing the eastern Atlantic Ocean. 12 stars are located on the right side of the outer ring, with six stars atop the map of Europe and six stars below it; six vertical stripes cut across the inner core of the coin, visually connecting the upper and lower star segments. Luc Luycx, a designer at the Royal Belgian Mint, designed the Euro’s common reverse; his initials, LL, are seen on the right side of the design, just under the “O” in “EURO.” 2 EURO LL
