Reverse

Depicts a honey bee, abbreviate "F A O" above, value below. Engraver's names are on the bottom.

The honey bee (Apis mellifera) is a highly social insect known for its role in pollination and honey production. Living in colonies with a structured hierarchy of a queen, worker bees, and drones, honey bees communicate through pheromones and intricate "waggle dances" to locate food sources. They play a crucial role in ecosystems by pollinating flowers, fruits, and crops, making them essential for agriculture and biodiversity. Despite their resilience, honey bee populations face threats from habitat loss, pesticides, and diseases, highlighting the need for conservation efforts to protect these vital pollinators.
