Description

The Bank of Namibia (BoN) is the central bank of Namibia, responsible for regulating the country’s monetary policy, financial stability, and currency issuance. Established in 1990, following Namibia’s independence from South Africa, the bank plays a crucial role in maintaining economic stability and controlling inflation. It issues the Namibian dollar (NAD), which is pegged to the South African rand (ZAR). The BoN also oversees commercial banks, promotes financial inclusion, and works to combat money laundering and financial crimes. Headquartered in Windhoek, the bank supports economic growth and development through its policies while ensuring a stable and efficient banking system in the country.

Samuel Shafiishuna Nujoma (b. 12 May 1929) is a Namibian revolutionary, anti-apartheid activist, and politician who served as the first President of Namibia from 1990 to 2005. As the founding leader of the South West African People’s Organization (SWAPO), he played a crucial role in Namibia’s struggle for independence from South African rule. Nujoma led both diplomatic efforts and armed resistance, gaining international support for Namibia’s self-determination. After independence in 1990, he guided the country through its early years of nation-building, focusing on reconciliation, economic development, and political stability. Although he stepped down in 2005, Nujoma remains a respected national figure, often referred to as the “Father of the Namibian Nation.”
