Established in 1990, following Namibia’s independence from South Africa, the bank plays a crucial role in maintaining economic stability and controlling inflation. It issues the Namibian dollar (NAD), which is pegged to the South African rand (ZAR). The African fish eagle (Haliaeetus vocifer) is a large bird of prey found near lakes, rivers, and wetlands across sub-Saharan Africa, including Namibia. Recognizable by its striking white head, dark brown body, and powerful black wings, it has a distinctive, piercing call often described as the "voice of Africa." A skilled hunter, the African fish eagle primarily feeds on fish, which it catches with its sharp talons, but it also scavenges and preys on birds or small mammals. It is closely related to the bald eagle and shares similar hunting behaviors. This majestic raptor is a national symbol of Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, representing strength, freedom, and resilience in African cultures.
