Fort St. Angelo is a historic fortress located at the tip of Vittoriosa (Birgu), overlooking the Grand Harbour in Malta. Originally a medieval castle, it was transformed into a formidable fortification by the Order of St. John in the 16th century and played a central role in the Great Siege of 1565, serving as the Order’s headquarters. The fort’s strategic position allowed it to control maritime access to the harbor, making it a crucial military and naval asset for centuries. It was later used by the British Royal Navy and underwent various modifications over time. Following significant restoration, Fort St. Angelo is now open to the public and stands as a symbol of Malta’s resilience and rich military heritage.
